Smells Like Gay Pride, Ian Giles
This candle was produced by the artist Ian Giles and made to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first London Gay Pride March in 2022, based on conversations with members of the Gay Liberation Front.
In July 1972 around 500 LGBTQI+ people marched for equality from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park. The smells of TOBACCO, WEED, EXHAUST FUMES and POLICE UNIFORMS filled the air. Like PATCHOULI they were filled with unbounded love and inclusiveness.
The scent of this limited edition candle is based on conversations with Andrew Lumsden, Stuart Feather and Nettie Pollard who marched 50 years ago.
